Wilin Week is the annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural diversity at the VCA. Over the course of the week there will be many opportunities to learn about, honour and connect with renowned Indigenous arts practitioners.
For more information on events happening this week. See HERE
Our next meeting will be held at 4:30pm in room 307 of the John Medley Building (UoM) on the 25th of March (next Monday). We have decided to read from Richard Bell: Lessons on Etiquette and Manners. I have picked the following articles:
Perkins, Hetti. Interview with Richard Bell p.15 – 18
Browning, Daniel. Decolonising Now: The Activism of Richard Bell p. 23 – 26
Bell, Richard. Psalm Singing (Australian Art: It’s an Aboriginal Thing) p.81 – 95
The book is available to purchase as part of the exhibition currently being shown at MUMA until April 13th. It costs $20 (or $10 for students). If you are unable to pick up a copy, please send me an email before Monday.
Hope to see you there,
MUMA (Monash University Museum of Art) is currently exhibiting the works of artist and political activist Richard Bell. Bell is a member of the Kamilaroi, Kooma, Jiman and Gurang Gurang communities; and lives and works in Brisbane. Lessons on Etiquette and Manners is the artist’s first in-depth presentation in Melbourne. It will be running from 5 Feb – 13 April and for those interested, there are a few events being held alongside.
