April Meeting at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, University of Virginia

The next Aboriginal Art Reading Group meeting will be Tuesday, April 12 at 7pm in the in the Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library, University of Virginia.

In honor of Australian photographer Ricky Maynard’s (Cape Portland and Ben Lomond people, Tasmania) residency and upcoming exhibition at the Kluge-Ruhe we will be reading Eric Michaels’ A Primer of Restrictions on Picture Taking in Traditional Areas of Aboriginal Australia, Visual Anthropology: Published in cooperation with the Commission on Visual Anthropology Volume 4, Issue 3 & 4, 1991, p.p. 259 – 275 and Damian Skinner’s, “Signs and Wonders” review of Ricky Maynard: Portrait of a Distant Land, article here.

Ricky will be in attendance and reservations are requested. Our next Melbourne-based reading group will be in late May, details to come.
