March Meeting: Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct

The next Aboriginal Art Reading Group meeting will be Monday, March 21 at 5:30pm in the Graduate Resource Room, ground floor of the Elisabeth Murdoch Building, opposite the staff kitchen.

We will be reading the Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct updated on 6 January 2011, available online: http://www.indigenousartcode.org/the_code

About the Code
The development of a commercial code of conduct was central to the recommendations of the 2007 Senate Inquiry report: Indigenous art – securing the future.

The Code was developed by the Australia Council, who worked closely with an Industry Alliance Group made up of artists, Indigenous art centres, commercial art galleries, public art galleries, auction houses and visual arts peak bodies Continue reading

February Meeting: Vivien Johnson, “Once Upon a Time in Papunya”

The next Aboriginal Art Reading Group meeting will be Monday, February 21 at 5:30pm in the Graduate Resource Room, ground floor of the Elisabeth Murdoch Building, opposite the staff kitchen.

We will be reading the Introduction, Chapter 1 and the Epilogue of Vivien Johnson’s 2010 book, Once Upon a Time in Papunya.

A copy of the readings, available for photocopying, are located in an envelope on the notice board outside Dr Susan Lowish’s office, room G27, ground floor Elisabeth Murdoch Building.
